Swaroop’s Story

SCOUTING

Swaroop was an amateur shooter who used to visit Gun for Glory academy in Pune to shoot as an amateur. He is an athlete in a wheelchair who transitioned to professional sport within 8 months of taking to it because he saw a future in the game. With GFG he began professional training in 10-meter Air Rifle under coach Kiran. Soon Swarup began to shoot competitive scores and was drafted into Project Leap in 2017.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Swaroop has been supported by Gagan Narang Sports Promotion Foundation right from the start of his professional career. In 2016 GNSPF helped him by sponsoring his weapon and since 2017 he was part of Project Leap. Through this program, all his training and competition needs have been funded.

His Olympic training for the Olympic program is currently funded by Olympic Gold Quest. He is one of the 4 para-athletes on the OGQ roster.

RESULTS

Six months after joining Project Leap, Swaroop qualified for the Para-World Cup. In 2019 he secured a quota for the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021. In June 2020 he achieved 5th position in the World Ranking.
